2000s Alt + Punk Playlist

2000s Alt + Punk Playlist

If you’re a child of the 90s like me, and grew up with your angsty preteen years landing smack dab in the midst of the early 2000s, then you’ll understand how necessary it is to periodically listen to some of those goodies. The 2000s were a time when the alternative, punky style rock (I won’t go so far to say any of these being in the actual “Punk Rock” genre; if anything, more Pop Rock). Keep in mind, this was the era of the emo/scene/MySpace crazes, and what fittingly accompanied this time was an onslaught of head bopping, punk influenced, often experimental bangers (think Panic! At the Disco, AFI, Breaking Benjamin, Fall Out Boy). I don’t know about you, but these rock-inspired-yet-catered-to-the-teen-demographic songs were crucial to shaping me at that age, offering a release and outlet in which I felt I could truly work through the angst and awkwardness.

In lieu of this, I have aptly named the playlist “Angsty Throwback”, celebrating some of my favourite go-to songs of the early 2000s that I will still gladly listen to and appreciate from time to time. You’ll find that some songs that predate this era or classify more as classic rock songs are added (such as Nirvana’s “Polly” or Radiohead’s “Karma Police”), but they still contribute in their own way to the particular mood and genre. Give it a listen if this is the kind of music that gives you a certain nostalgic kick, or even if you’re just curious!
