Art Appreciation Gallery

Happy Sunday, readers! There are some exciting things are on the horizon for AvidBards, but I can’t reveal anything yet, so stay tuned! However, in lieu of looking forward to a new chapter, today’s post is something a little out of the ordinary for us. Though we’ve previously put up gallery posts like 15 Beautifully Aesthetic Bookshelves, or its sequel, Mesmerizing Bookshelves Part 2, today I’ve decided to display a small portion of my visual art portfolio.

Visual art has been a passion of mine since the beginning of time. In fact, both S and I love to express ourselves visually – this mutual dedication to art was cemented when we both minored in Visual Studies during our post-secondary education! Since graduating, I’ve been adamant to maintain my love for art. I’m happy to say that my work has since been displayed in a few shows, and I am currently (and frantically) preparing for an upcoming group exhibition that’s taking place in a few weeks. One of the reasons I love creating visual art so much is that it’s not only an emotional outlet, but a form of storytelling of its own. (Also, it should be clear at this point that we at AvidBards are actively passionate about anything and everything storytelling-related!)

Through my art, I strive to contribute to the storytelling process as best as possible. It doesn’t matter if I’m painting a facial expression, the human form, or a landscape: I create art that aims to evoke a multitude of feelings from my viewers. The mind, body and soul are extremely interesting and interconnected subjects, so when it comes to my art, my storytelling method is very much one that revolves around the human condition. There is beauty in human complexity, so when it comes to painting in particular, I try and use as many colours, textures and gestures to convey this complexity in a tangible way.

I classify my painting work as abstract realism, but when I sit down to paint, I try to utilize new and unexpected techniques every time. Some of my biggest inspirations come from the Expressionist, Impressionist, and Fauvist art movements, but that’s not to say that I don’t find all kinds of art styles and movements inspirational. Seriously, the happiest and calmest version of myself is when you put me in an art gallery! I continually look forward to growing and expanding my mediums as an artist. For now, however, today’s gallery is one that features some of my most recent paintings – all of which are some of my proudest works.

So, if you’ll allow me to toot my own horn a little, take a look at the small gallery of paintings below! And if you like what you see, feel free to start following my artistic journey more in depth on my art Instagram account. Critiques are welcome as always, and if you enjoy viewing a bit of visual storytelling on the blog, let us know and we’ll continue to do so!
