“I, Tonya” Review

Even though I watched (and loved) this film the first week it came out in theatres back in December, its arrival onto Netflix reminded me of just how good it was. After re-watching it, my thoughts on it have solidified, and my love for it has grown. Here are the reasons why I thought I, Tonya (2017, dir. Craig Gillespie) is an incredibly introspective film that took a real life event and transformed itself into a thought-provoking commentary on fame, media depiction, mob mentality, and elitism in the figure skating world. (Warning: major spoilers ahead.) Here’s what you have to…

Summer TV List

We’re coming back to you this month with a new TV list. You might remember that we posted a Spring TV List back in April. Summer is one of those times where you’re either so far away from the TV that you cannot remember the last time you even sat down to watch something, or you’re escaping the intense heat and humidity of summer days by sitting in your air conditioned lounge, flipping through channels, trying to find something engaging. And like all seasons, there is a specific mood that you want to go for during the summer, something intriguing,…

Dark Humour in “Kingsman: Secret Service”

Happy Sunday, everyone! A little bit of academic writing never hurt anyone, so today I’m posting yet another one of my old essays I wrote for a film class back in university. Why Re-Reading is a Good Thing

Finding yourself in a funk? Six months into the year and forgetting all your New Year’s Resolutions? You and me both! Worse than that, trying to find the motivation for them can sometimes be even more difficult. And that’s where I am finding myself…

Canada Day Playlist

Happy Canada Day to all our fellow Canadians! Today we decided to celebrate by curating a Spotify playlist made up of Canadian musicians. Some classics, some newer, some more obscure, some popular. Made up of 60 songs by various artists, it’s definitely a mishmash of genres, but I think that well represents the diverse “mosaic” nature of Canadians and our culture! Have a happy, safe, festive Canada Day! ~ Z ~ photo by Ali Tawfiq on Unsplash

Blindspot First Impressions

As far as concepts go, the tattooed body as a message is not a new one. In fact, thanks to Prison Break, it’s a rather famous one. However, that doesn’t make Blindspot any less interesting. The premise of the show centres around an anonymous woman, Jane Doe, is found in the middle of time square in a bag, with tattoos covering most of her body, which turns out to be a puzzle that if followed may reveal who she is and what happened to her. The only clue as to who she is is the tattoo of FBI agent Kurt…
