Album Of The Month: Weezer’s ‘Teal Album’

Though it was released almost one year ago in January 2019, Weezer’s Teal Album has continued to be one of my go-to’s for the last little while. You may be thinking: wow, it’s a long time since I’ve thought about Weezer. I thought the same when I first heard the band’s name surface after what had felt like about a decade. Weezer was a common name to hear when I was going through my childhood and early teens: some of their most popular songs to date are “Say It Ain’t So” and “Buddy Holly”, considered classics of the 90s angst-pop-punk…

III by The Lumineers – Part I: Gloria Sparks

I am so utterly excited about today’s post! Last year, I did a run-through of the music video series that one of my favourite bands had put out. This year, along with a brand new album, the same band have done yet another series of interrelated stories in their music videos! The Lumineers third studio album III was released at the beginning of September, and with it, a ten-part music video series. I will go through all three parts and divide them into three separate blog posts as I could not do them justice if I had to condense them…

September Motivation

Let’s face it, readers – for those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere, summer is (almost officially, come the 23rd) at a close. For many of us, this means that either vacation is over and we’re snapped back into reality, school is kicking into gear, we’re starting new jobs, or settling back into our old ones. September can be a tough transition period, as we yearn for more of the long, sunny days and carefree summer moments. I can say that, personally, I have been feeling overwhelmed ever since September started. This month always brings about a sense of…

Pride Playlist

Pride Month is one of my favourite times of the year. I live in Toronto, which is one of the most diverse and queer-friendly cities. Pride Month is a time where the weather is finally getting warmer, the city becomes adorned with colour and liveliness, and though major corporations love to adopt Pride month as part of their marketing strategies (which I don’t really agree with), people are reminded of why there is so much to celebrate in the queer community. That being said, it’s extremely important for us to remember what the origins of the Pride Parade and Pride…

On the Social Responsibility of Writers

Do they have any? With Pride month upon us, it is perhaps no surprise that the question of social activism is on my mind. And since I am in the midst of writing my doctorate thesis, the question of social activism and writing has occupied my thoughts. Particularly the wonder of whether or not writers have a social responsibility to be activists, especially if they are writing about social issues? I am unashamed to admit that social activism plays a large role in my life: I am an openly feminist person of colour, an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, and ardently…

3 Ways Having a Planner Has Helped Me

I am someone who didn’t realize they had Type-A tendencies for the longest time, and because of that, I always neglected using a planner. Because I can also be quite laid back (see: “procrastinator”), I convinced myself that I could simply organize and prioritize my tasks in my mind. I slowly began to realize, however, that I was becoming more and more absent-minded because of this (as one does when you have a million things going on in your brain). So, I would write down task lists and appointments on my phone’s Notes app, but the simplistic nature of the…
