AvidBards’ Social Distancing Film List (Part 2)

Welcome back, readers! As promised, here is Part 2 of the AvidBards Social Distancing Film List (Part 1 can be found here). Social distancing isn’t easy for many of us, as a lot of us have had our daily routines majorly disrupted by the current state of the world. While I absolutely advocate for social distancing and think it’s so important to stay at home if you can and as much as you can, I also understand that the mental ramifications can be tough. Personally, anxiety and stress have been at a high, and know that’s the case for many…

AvidBards’ Social Distancing Film List (Part 1)

During these times of uncertainty, we hope everyone is staying safe and healthy out there. In light of the current global health climate, many of us are practicing ‘social distancing’, which means staying at home and avoiding public places and gatherings as much as possible. While this can certainly be a great time to catch up on some mental and physical TLC, as well as spending quality time with family, housemates, or your own self, this type of prolonged isolation can become difficult to handle at times. International Women’s Day Recommendation List

Happy International Women’s Day! Being as we are two women who run this blog, we are very unsurprisingly huge advocates of female representation and celebration. Last nights result at the Oscars were both surprising and highly predictable. Most notable of all however, and worthy of mention right from the beginning is the award for Best Picture being given to a non-English speaking film, Parasite directed by Bong Joon-ho, for the first time in Academy history. But let’s back up a minute and start from the beginning! The Academy Awards (commonly known as the Oscars) are awards given by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) at the beginning of every year for artistic merit in the film industry from the previous year. They…

Top Favourites 2019: Movies

How does one even begin to sift through the numerous releases from 2019? Indeed this past year has been such a big one for movies! With the long-awaited final instalments of both the Star Wars and Avengers franchises, the release of two Disney live-action remakes and a slew of incredible dramas and comedies it makes it difficult to pick just a few. But I’ve managed to identify six that stick in my mind from the past year. Here are my favourite movies from 2019: John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum This may just be me because I absolutely love thrillers…
